28 Fun Facts About Me In Year 28

Hello GorJess Featured Blog Post Image

I had the intention of posting this back in January, but I stopped creating a timeline for myself when writing posts and just writing when I feel compelled to.

Highly recommend this practice! Also, it took me a while to come up with 28 fun facts about myself.

Okay, so 28 facts about me for year 28! This will be fun to share with you all!

1. My Middle Name Has No Meaning

So, my middle name has no meaning. I know that you might be thinking, “Okay Jess, who cares?” BUT my middle name is Evans and there are many times that people think this is a last name or family name that carried onto me, but it’s not. My Nana came up with it because she liked the way, Jessica Evans Rebstock sounded. My initials do have meaning though. My dad’s initials are JER and he also wanted me to have the same initials as him so that is special.

2. I’m a LEFTY

That’s right (no left, but you get the point)! I’m a lefty! I don’t know why this is so shocking to people, but I am! When I say, “I’m left-handed,” people are like, “YOU ARE!?” So do I look like a right handed person? I’m not sure, but if I do…sorry to burst your bubble! Left it is!

3. I Physically Ran Into Reggie Bush In An Elevator

This is so true and funny! I was at a Lil Wayne concert in 10th grade and at the time we were staying in my friend’s suite. A few of us went to take the elevator to go get t-shirts and I physically ran into Reggie Bush coming out of the elevator. Random, but true and at the time he was dating Kim Kardashian, so of course my friends and I were super embarrassed!

4. Don’t Watch The Parent Trap With Me I Know Every Word And It’s Annoying

Literally every word…I grew up watching The Parent Trap ALL. THE. TIME. so much so, I memorized every word and can absolutely recite this two hour movie. For me, it’s an achievement. For anyone watching this with me, it’s annoying! Lol!

5. I Don’t Like Mardi Gras, GASP

I truly do not like Mardi Gras. I know this isn’t a fun fact, but I’m sure it’s surprising. Living in LA means you have purple, gold and green running through your veins, but sadly I do not- just purple because that’s my favorite color. Mardi Gras is just super overstimulating for me and kind of embarrassing. Yelling at people to throw you beer soaked beads? Only in LA?

6. I Almost Tried Out For Disney Channel As A Child

I didn’t know about this until recently, but apparently Disney Channel was having tryouts in New Orleans when I was little. In case you didn’t know, I missed my calling to be an actress. It’s a sad story, but I truly think I could have been one of the greats! So much personality and imagine and I could put on a show like no other. I don’t know why I didn’t try out, but I was close y’all! So close to being a Disney star!

7. I Can Eat Cereal For Every Meal

I’m obsessed with cereal and could honestly eat it for every meal if I tried. Fun fact, I don’t buy cereal for this reason. I WOULD eat it for every meal, truly! My favorite is Cinnamon Toast Crunch!

8. I’ve Been Playing The Piano Since I’m 5 Years Old

Call me Beethoven or Jessica! You choose! I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old and I totally took interest at a young age. I was a button presser, so the piano was perfect for me! I was a little bit active for the piano, but I still play to this day.

9. I’m An Early Childhood Educator Teaching College Kids

That’s the truth! Both my undergraduate and master’s degree are in early childhood education, but I love Nicholls SO MUCH that I just couldn’t imagine leaving. Now, I teach college kids and I must say, I love every bit of it!

10. Introverted Extrovert, That’s Me!

Yes, I took a test to see if I’m an introvert or an extrovert and this was the conclusion. Apparently, there is a such thing as an introverted extrovert. I had no idea! Basically, I have an extroverted personality, but also have introverted qualities which makes sense for my personality. I LOVE and thrive around people, but in order to function, I need my alone time. Maybe you can relate?

11. I Can Whistle Any Song

I’m serious! My whistling skills are freaky! My grandpa use to ask me, “Girl! Where did you buy that whistle?” I would get so frustrated and say, “I don’t have a whistle in my mouth!” He always liked to joke with me.

12. I Didn’t Try Popeyes Until I Was In College

It’s true! I never had Popeyes until I was in college and that’s a sad fact. Although I do not really eat Popeyes ever, I did try it and thought it was really good! I won’t tell you why I never had it, but you can ask my parents! lol

13. I Sneeze When I Pluck My Eyebrows

This is also true. I can’t pluck my eyebrows without sneezing my head off! Does this happen to any of you? This is a VERY random fact about me, but I’ve got to know if I am the only one. I feel like there is a small tribe of us that are “Sneezing eyebrow pluckers,” BUT if I am alone in this, I’m okay with that too!

14. I Walked Down A Black Diamond While Skiing

Okay, so I skiied for the first time when I was 9 years old and I taught myself how to skii in one hour (TRUE). I picked up on skiing really quickly and over a week in the mountains I mastered skiing to the point that my dad felt I was ready to try a black diamond with him! My dad is an INCREDIBLE skier and he did an amazing job teaching me and coaching me. So, we made it to the top of the mountain that was labeled a black diamond. I started out strong. I REALLY started out strong, BUT I got so scared and if you have skied a black diamond, you know the angle you are on that mountain. So what did Jessica do? I sat down on the mountain, took my off my skiis and walked down the mountain. Have no fear, I tried this again when I was older and made it down the mountain successfully!

15. I Wrote My First Published Story At 5 years Old

I entered a contest when I was in kindergarten and wrote a story about my rock collection. Yes, I was a rock collector. It made it into the published book by my school district, along with other children throughout our district. I always it was intended for me to be a writer.

16. I Read The First Harry Potter 7 Times

How do I know this? When I was little, I would mark the inside cover of my books with a symbol that represented something within the story. Each time I read it, I would mark a symbol on the inside cover. Just a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon my Harry Potter books and looked inside the first one. Inside the cover I saw 7 lighting bolts (how cute) which meant I read the book 7 times. It would have been better if I read it 9 and 3/4ths, right?

17. I Am Obsessed With House Plants

16 house plants? Let’s be honest…I live in a jungle! I absolutely love plants so much and I will not hide the fact that I became obsessed with plants during quarantine just like the rest of the world. I went to Lowes. Yes, I went to Lowes sometimes twice a day and you know what? I am so glad I did! So far, I only killed two plants (one of those being a fiddle leaf fig which hurts my heart to this day) BUT the rest of my plants are alive, hallelujah!

18. If I Wasn’t An Educator I Would Be A…

Fun fact, if I wasn’t an educator, I would absolutely be on broadway. I am obsessed with broadway and have MISSED my nights at The Saengar over the past year due to the pandemic. I always dreamed about singing and performing. I loved being on stage all those years I spent in dancing and it was evident I loved the attention. Although I am not blessed with much of a voice, my dream would be to live in New York City and perform on broadway. Maybe one day I will get my chance!

19. My First Entrepreneurial Endeavor Was Selling Rocks

I won’t give away too much of this story…secure your copy of my book and you can read all about how I was destined to be my own boss:)

20. I Have Discalculia

So, I have not been formally diagnosed with discalculia, but I did a project in college including extensive research and based on what I learned, I have discalculia. What is discalculia? It is a math learning disability that impairs an individual’s ability to learn number-related concepts, perform accurate math calculations, reason and problem solve, and perform other basic math skills (literally copied and pasted this from Google). I have ALWAYS struggled in math, but excelled in every other subject. Clearly, ELA is my JAM!

21. I Watched Seasons 1 and 2 Of The Crown On Repeat Every Day For Four Months

Weird, but this is just a fun fact that my roomie can attest to. If you love Claire Foy and The Crown as much as I do, you understand why seasons one and two are worth watching OVER AND OVER. 4 months? Every day? I have always loved the royal family and actually remember when Princess Diana died. I was only 4 years old, but I remember being in great sadness and even putting on my black leotard to wear to dance class that day. I grew up around adults and was raised as an only child, so I always acted a bit older (and dramatic) for my age. So, of course when The Crown came out, I couldn’t wait to see the royal family’s life unfold!

22. I Only Own 10 Makeup Products

I only like to wear makeup when I have to or when I feel like putting it on, as most of you do, BUT I rarely (if ever) want to wear it. I only own 10 makeup products and I like it that way. I am not big on eye makeup and I do not like to clog my pores, so makeup and I don’t really jive. My friends have boxes and countertops filled with brushes, foundation and every brand you can imagine. I, in fact have only ten products that fit in a tiny little bag that I can take with me wherever I go!

23. I See The Number 23 At Least Twice A Day

23 is my lucky number (and angel number, apparently)! I see the number 23 so often it’s almost freaky. I look at the time, 1:23. I see someone’s license plate, 023. I was born on January 23rd, so I’ll say it’s my lucky number!

24. I Loved Quarantine And I Miss It

I absolutely loved quarantine and I feel like I needed it to recharge my life. Did you feel the same way? It was one of the best things for me. I loved having alone time and I also had a lot of time to think and just be me!

25. One Time I Ate An Entire Tub Of Toll House Cookie Dough In My Sleep

I’m so serious…I sleep eat sometimes. One night, I must have gotten up in the middle of the night and ate an entire tub of toll house cookie dough without even realizing it. I don’t know how much of the cookie dough had been eaten, but the tub was basically full and I was sick for days after I ate all of that dough! This is why I can’t buy myself snacks, y’all!

26. I Never Watched A Christmas Story

G A S P! I know so many of you who know me know that I am OBSESSED with Christmas so this may come as a shock, but I have never watched it. I’m sorry dedicated fans! It’s on my list to watch this coming Christmas!

27. I Walk A 5K Every Day

It’s true! I really do and I honestly call this time my 50 minutes of free therapy. I listen to my favorite podcasts. I get inspiration for blog posts. I do my best thinking when I’m walking and even though I also lift weights, I always get in 3.1 miles a day.

28. I Taught Myself How To Do A Back Handspring

Don’t get me wrong, I went to gymnastics my entire life, BUT for hurricane Katrina, I went out in my back yard and practiced. I flipped on my own until I got strong enough to land on my feet. The rest is history…I won’t ever forget that day. I drove my golf cart to everyone’s house, knocked on my family’s doors and flipped in the yard for them! It was such a fun day and my coaches couldn’t believe I basically taught myself. I am a bit of a dare devil, so they weren’t TOTALLY surprised!

Fun fact, It Is Really Hard To Come Up With 28 Facts About Yourself! Tell me a fun fact about you in the comments:)
