Are Your Feminine Products Safe?

Ladies, this post is for YOU and it’s an important one!

We all know there is such a stigma on the “time of the month.” I know I have always been so secretive and discreet about my period, but as I am getting older, I am questioning why.

It happens to the majority of women and it is a force of nature. Why should we be embarrassed of this?

I am an advocate for wellness. I spend much of my free time researching the best practices, products and additives that can improve my quality of life, are good for my body and are environmentally friendly.

Recently, I have been researching an important area of my health that I have somehow managed to neglect. The information I have uncovered has left my eyes open.

I felt compelled to share this with you all because this topic is highly important, needs to come out from the shadows and be discussed.

Recently, I discovered Cora, a brand of feminine products designed for women by women- just like you and me. Their mission is to remove any stigma or fear from the term “time of the month.”

That statement alone captured my interest and left me with much curiosity and a thirst to learn more about these products.

One would assume that ALL companies who make feminine products would have women’s health as the TOP priority when manufacturing these products, right?

Keep reading…I’m just getting warmed up!

What Makes These Products Different From Any Other:

Cora is better for your body, the environment, and farmers. Yes, you read that right. Farmers play a CRITICAL role in making feminine products.

Did you know that feminine product companies have never had to disclose ingredients used to create their products? Many feminine product companies spray their crops with pesticides and insecticides, putting our health at risk, along with the environment.

So do this for me. Stop and think about all those times you used a tampon or pad…

Here’s an interesting equation to get you thinking…

  • Periods typically last 5-7 days. (Mine is normally 5) How many tampons or pads do you use a day? I use about 2-3. So that’s about 10-15 tampons each cycle. I’ll go with the average-13.
  • Multiple that number by 12 (since we only have our period once a month).
  • Now. Think back to how old you were when you started your period. I was 13 (I’m now 26 so I have been having a period for half of my life- OUCH)!
  • So I will take the original number and multiple that by 13. What’s my summation? 2,028.
  • This shows I have used over 2,000 tampons in my lifetime filled with chemicals, insecticides, and God knows what else because ingredients in these products are not disclosed.

Mic drop….

Take a look at this chart to see what we have been putting in our bodies.

Eye opening right? I feel sick thinking about the fact that I have been using feminine products for 13 years and I am JUST learning what is actually in them.

I have been thinking about the millions of women who are diagnosed with uterine, cervical or ovarian cancer…can this be from tainted, low quality feminine products we have bought into?

Their Cause:

I was taken back by the cause that is igniting this company. Take a guess…

Women empowerment.

The story behind their cause left me in tears and had me wondering how this global problem is taking place in the 21st century.

Did you know that millions of girls and women around the world stay home from school or work during their periods because they can’t afford menstrual supplies?

Did you know that 300 million girls and women use rags, plastics, sand and ash to manage their periods?

Did you know that 25 million women in the U.S. live below the poverty line without consistent access to period products?

Did you know that 38 states still tax tampons and other menstrual products as non essentials?

I did not know any of this and I feel compelled to help and make a difference.

How can I do this? How can you do this? With every purchase of Cora products pads, health education and jobs are provided to girls and women in need in developing nations and right here in the U.S.

Optional Monthly Subscription:

Cora offers a monthly subscription of feminine products delivered to your door. HOW AMAZING IS THIS!? Best part of it all, you customize your box to meet the needs of your menstrual cycle.

Review:

I have used Cora products and I can say they are like no other. They are comfortable and I know they are safe. I feel better knowing that my health is not at risk when I am using their products.

What I love most is that with my purchase, I am helping girls and women in need. My heart breaks each time I think about the millions of women who struggle once a month for something that is out of their control. I’m making it my mission to constantly support this company and advocate for those who do not have the means to do it on their own.

I purchased some a box of Cora at Target for myself and my friends to try. If you just want to see what it’s all about without creating a subscription box, you can find them there.

Ending on this note, if you have to buy feminine products, why would you choose anything else other than Cora? I know this girl is a Cora girl!

  1. Jessica I applaud you for tackling such a sensitive woman’s subject. When I was growing up we didn’t have the choices woman have today. I was 29 when I had my last monthly cycle. It was the year I had my hysterectomy. I wish we had all those choices you woman have today. Go girl keep us informed.
