Advice For The Girl Who Always Says, “Yes.”

I am a “yes girl.” It is very rare that I actually tell people “no.” I am a natural people pleaser. I love making others happy before myself and I have recently come to realize a few things to share with all of you “yes girls.”

In order to completely qualify as a “yes girl” here are the qualities one must possess.

1. Bending over backwards for any and every one is a part of your daily agenda.

2. When you tell someone “yes” you feel a sense of importance.

3. On the rare occasion when you tell someone “no” you feel terrible for days and reason with yourself as to why you told that person “no.”

If you answered “YES” to these three, congratulations….you are a “yes girl!”

This job and responsibility is one that you should be proud of. The fact that you are willing to give of yourself for others is exactly what we were put on this Earth to do…though I know this job can come with baggage at times.

Sometimes, you may not feel like agreeing to something but the guilt isn’t worth the trouble.

I have been there, all of us “yes” people have been there too.

The one thing I have learned is that it is okay to say no.

At some point in time, we have to take control of our lives and find a healthy balance between agreeing to something and respectfully declining.

I’ve spent MANY, MANY years always saying yes, and I do not regret that, but I do believe my experience and age has allowed me to reach a turning point. I have come to realize saying no doesn’t mean you are letting anyone down.

People are understanding.

This is something to remember when you are being pulled in two different directions.

You are not alone, “yes girl!” There are many of us who struggle with this daily and I’m here to let you know, it is okay to respectfully decline. I challenge you! The next time someone asks you to do something you aren’t keen on, tell them no and feel no regret (even if it’s just to sit on your sofa and watch Netflix)
