What The Wainscoting

Most who know me would say that I’m a pretty confident person when it comes to my decision making. I’m a think it through-weigh out all my options kind of girl. I have known for a long time that this wall needed to be wainscoted in my parent’s house. Little did I know it would take LITTLE convincing to sell this idea to my parents.

They loved the idea and over the last three months, this project has been in the works. Taking you through each step, my experience and the final result of our wainscoted hallway.

When that baseboard came off…I got a little nervous. I knew this wall was meant to be wainscoted, it was just so unusual that my parents were sold so quickly. First we removed the baseboard in order to build in the frame work for the wainscoting.

Then we painted the entire space (white dove by Benjamin Moore) in order to create the illusion that this entire wainscot was “built in” with paneling behind it. Fooled y’all! This wall stayed this way for 1 day. I was secretly thinking “oh gosh, what did I have them do!?” I thought this phase looked terrible, but I knew it wasn’t finished. Like I said before, I’m typically a confident person, but this had me doubting myself for once.

Then, my dad put the vertical framework….I swear I heard angels sing (and it wasn’t even done). The vertical paneling CHANGED THE NAME OF THE GAME. I patted myself on the back and gave myself a high five. It was so beautiful and completely changed the look of our house. I kid you not… I had a tear in my eye.

Then, we put the shelf on top. This helped add character and made this space functional. I’m all about functionality. It is truly a statement in our house. (Excuse our staircase. It was just refinished…railings being put on soon).

Next, the brackets. My mom designed these herself and they came out extraordinary. This added support and a decorative accent tying in the traditional and classic elements of our home.

My Dad is the man. He literally does anything and everything we ask with little complaint. I owe it all to him. He has taught me so much and made me a handy girl!

Voila! This is such an EASY and inexpensive way to make a house a home. Wainscoting is timeless and an investment for your home as far as adding character and appeal. Thanks for reading! Get to wainscoting! Keep every element of your home, GorJess💋✌🏼
